Savyn Tech is a Toronto-based startup providing inclusive mental health digital solutions for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in multiple languages so vulnerable groups like immigrants and refugees can access them easily. Our startup was awarded the Social Impact Prize at one of the world’s largest open innovation competitions, Coopérathon, Penny Appeal Social Accelerator Fund and MIT Solve's HealthAccess Prize together with Johnson & Johnson. Savyn is currently incubating at Toronto Metropolitan University's Social Ventures Zone and at BioMedical Zone—a partnership with St Michael’s Hospital.

Remote Fullstack Senior/Lead NextJS DeveloperSavyn is looking to hire a Remote Fullstack Senior/Lead NextJS Developer to join our team, joining us on our mission to make mental healthcare for trauma and PTSD accessible, using neuroscience based therapies to reduce symptoms of PTSD including depression, anxiety and distress. Our company is focused on building a platform that is based on equitable access, especially in vulnerable communities, to support both clinicians and patients the tools to heal, in short times so they can live to their full potential. We are a social impact organization, working towards SDG goals 3 (good health and well-being) and 10 (reducing inequities). Savyn’s founding team has lived experience with trauma as survivors of war. Savyn has completed a clinical study demonstrating great patient outcomes in eight weeks and is already in-market serving refugee newcomers to Canada. Our study was completed at Sick Kids Research Institute, one of the leading research institutes in Canada, in adults diagnosed with PTSD. Savyn is also venture backed by Forum Ventures. As the Lead Developer, you'll be at the forefront of shaping and building the product as a hands-on leader, with the opportunity to build and lead a team down the road. Founding Engineer & Team The Lead Developer brings a wealth of experience in product and engineering. You have ideally spent time in early-stage startups as a product/engineering leader at companies that are venture-backed health tech scale-ups. They have a deep background in health tech and life sciences companies and have also been a part of exited companies to Fortune 500's. Backed by Forum Ventures Studio, you’ll work with a team of experienced startup operators and ex-founders from engineering, design, product, growth, and more to go from 0 to 1. We are based on empathy, equity and inclusion in everything we do, from our tech, to how we collaborate and engage with our community, partners, stakeholders and team members. We revolutionize the mental health care space for trauma by innovating from therapeutics, wearables and diagnostics, to become credible and reputed leaders in this space. What We Are Looking For : 4 years of experience in NextJS. You have built and shipped scalable NextJS solutions before. You know what coding standards are, and you are extremely comfortable setting and following best practices. You are confident in debugging, optimizing, refactoring, and fixing complex code. You are able to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements. 2 years of experience in CouchDB and SQL Databases You have built and maintained a mid-scale CouchDB database before. You have performed a database migration before. You are familiar with Prismic. Lack of documentation bothers you, and you know how to properly create the needed knowledge. You have built and maintained CI/CD pipelines before. You have collaborated with DevOps teams to deploy on the Cloud (AWS, GCP, etc.) before. You know how to properly maintain GitHub repos (permissions, tags, releases, etc.). You are comfortable working with third-party cloud backend providers (e.g., Auth0). What You Are Looking For : You are excited by the energy, focus, and ambiguity of an early-stage startup. You want to own the engineering stack end-to-end, and architect and build the core platform and integrations that enable our mission. ResearcherBrief description of the role We develop solutions for vital problems to make a genuine and meaningful impact on people suffering from PTSD. We are seeking a passionate PTSD research intern to join our team and contribute knowledge and expertise towards establishing the solid research foundations this important work requires. Qualifications The ideal candidate should be a student or recent graduate in Neuroscience, Psychology or related disciplines with an understanding of trauma-based psychotherapies/psychology research. You should be fluent in verbal and written English. Additional language skills are an advantage, but not required. Responsibilities Assist in providing, elaborating, communicating and documenting a solid research methodology for trauma-based therapies Write research summaries suitable for a broad range of audience type, from expert to general public Research and build a contact list of PTSD researchers, psychotherapists, immigrants, refugees settlement agencies and trauma survivors Support all other research-based activities on a needs basis, depending on shifting priorities Work under minimal supervision and take accountability for assigned projects Good communication and team collaboration skills Well-organized, disciplined and responsible with a good work ethic Flexible and adaptable attitude towards learning, taking on challenges Useful but not required: Hands-on experience with PTSD-related clinical research (e.g., clinical trials, fMRI, EEG, TMS, PET) Useful but not required: Hands-on experience with PTSD-related data processing, analyzing and organizing (e.g., network-based statistic, generalized linear models, image processing) What you will learn Work with entrepreneurs and learn about the startup ecosystem Business development strategies including B2B sales, marketing and growth strategies Mental health sector and strategies for personal wellbeing Inclusion practises Work with neuro-scientist and PhD candidate Potential to participate in setting up clinical trials and validation Working with experts in the field like scientists and psychotherapists Duration This position requires a minimum commitment of three months. Digital media intern - audio and videoWe are looking for our first ever digital media intern who is skilled in producing digital media for podcasts, short videos and voice recordings for our app. We are looking for at least one year experience (course work and school newspaper/radio totally count!). Our app, Savyn, also requires voice scripts to be recorded for in-app play, which includes guided instructions for breathing and other therapeutic interventions. These recordings will be in English primarily. If you speak a secondary language it will definitely be a plus! We are also looking for digital storytellers to tell the stories of mental health, resilience, inclusion and belonging in the audio and video formats. ● Voice recording for podcast and in-app play ● Script writing for podcasts ● Interviewing skills and immigrant/refugee and other vulnerable group story telling ● Research stories ● Pitching stories to the management team ● Audio post production, cut and log audio ● Work with other interns to disseminate audio and video stories to our social media channels including Instagram, Youtube, LinkedIn and email newsletters. ● Writing and editing in line with our brand’s tone ● Research on mental health topics, markets, customers, and competitors to identify opportunities to inform our digital marketing strategy. Skills required ● You are a self- starter and able to research the stories we want to tell in the mental health, immigrant, refugee and trauma space. ● You have knowledge of audio editing software (tell us what you bring!) ● You know to shoot, produce and edit short videos. It doesn’t have to be very high end, high quality phone video shoots with good audio works well for us. ● You have some knowledge about lighting, sound and video recording. ● You have some knowledge about audio and video editing and post production. ● You have basic knowledge of story writing. ● You have the ability to organize and conduct many tasks and provide updates and metrics. ● You can work alone but also be collaborative and love working in a team to brainstorm new creative marketing ideas. ● You have an amazing work ethic and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
